Sneezing chicks. any help?

Postby hatchitpoultry » Thu Jun 24, 2010 6:01 pm

Hi,

We hatch lots of chicks, and recently they've started sneezing and sounding all croaky. They've always been mixed just with other chicks, but this time we've introduced a few ducklings. Could this have an affect?

They are dying now, and we don't know what to do to stop it.

Any ideas? Thanks
Bas + Stephen,

its best not to rear ducklings with chicks as ducklings make brooders wet which can cause the chicks problems so I would say yes thats a contributing factor. you need to split ducklings from chicks and healthy away from sick and really make sure all brooders spotless and bone dry. and really scrub your hands between dealing with brooders making sure you attend to the healthy ones first and sick ones last to try and limit the spread of the ailment.
as there is now infection there your choice may well be to cull anything that gets sick to try and limit its spread or go up vet and get a suitable antibitic off vet to try and sort them out although anything badly effected really best culled as a hard set back as a little chick can mean the bird is weak and unthrify for life :(
