forgotten the name.. maybe

Post by Franglais » 17 May 2010, 14:18

I have forgotten the name of a breed of chickens recently seen at the spring fete, but have
a feeling it was something like ' Negre de soie',

can anyone confirm this breed name is right please and let me know something about them.

Are they good layers etc., I know there eggs are smaller than say warrens but that doesnt worry me.

Soie means silk and negre refers to the fact they have black skin. You can imagine where that word dervies from I'm sure.

I know bugger all about silkies so someone else can help with that bit

Silkies are fluffy feathered birds slightly smaller than normal in both LF and bantam editions........well loved as broodys and lots of breeders cross them with other breeds to get bigger broodies....... calm and friendly ideal for fasmily birds
