Locking stifle- older horse

Post by Woodland Hen » 20 Jun 2013, 10:04

Hi all

Anyone had experience of locking stiffle joint in an older horse? My sec d had when young but grew out if it. My tb apparently also had when young and had his operated on. He was fine up to about 13 yrs but last few years it has been an on and off issue, combination of rest, fittening work etc undertaken at various stages. However he is now worse than I have ever seen him, he can hardly move. I expect he has slipped in the field and aggravated it but it is just getting worse. Not sure what prognosis will be in a 15 year old who has had the surgery previously :( waiting for the vet. :o

Sorry, I've no horsey experience and didn't want to read and run, but I hope the vet's visit has a positive outcome for you x

Thanks LP.
He is looking better today, after some injections yesterday. I am not convinced it is a straight forwards stifle problem, so am having the chiropractor come out next week.
