We have a small back garden so only have space for a small number of chickens, 8-10 maximum (although the coop I made will house 12).

Currently we have 5 from 3 different "batches" of chickens. They are all hybrid with the oldest being a blue egg layer who's currently about 6 years old, the only survivor of the original flock, she doesn't lay that often now, she'll produce an egg every few days for a few weeks (sometimes longer) and then take a rest for anything up to 6 months at a time and then sneak in and lay us a few more just when we think she's all done with laying!

We decided from the original flock that everyone had the right to live their natural life out so as and when they stop laying they can continue to live in the flock.
