Black Shumen/Shumenska chicken

Origin: old breeds from Bulgaria. Small black chicken developed in Bulgaria centuries ago. The name is thought to derive from the lace bonnets of the Shumen region.
In middle of XX (1950-1970) century Black Shumen/Shumenska chicken is crossed whit black Minorca and Rhode Island red in Bulgarian Poultry Institute for improving productivity of the breed. In these moment the breed is near extinction (be 150 breeding birds).

Type: Layer;Fancy
Egg color: white
Productivity: 150-160 eggs with white egg shell
Egg size: 50-52 g
Skin color: white
Earlobes: red
Comb: single
Maturing: early maturing
Weight: rooster-2,0-2,5 kg (4,4-5,5 pounds), hen-1,5-2,0 kg (3,3-4,4 pounds)

Stara Zagora/ Starozagorska red chicken

Origin: Bulgaria; this is a breed of chicken which had been developed in Hybrid center of Poultry, Stara Zagora, Bulgaria. The local red hens and Rhode Island red male were utilized for developing this dual- purpose breed through selection and breeding system.
Varieties: red
Type: Layer
Egg color: brown
Productivity: 200-220 eggs
Egg size: 56-58 g
Skin color: yellow
Earlobes: red
Comb: single
Maturing: early maturing
Weight: rooster-3,0-3,7 kg (6-7 pounds), hen-2,5 kg (5 pounds)

Nova Zagora / Novozagorska black turkey

Productivity: 30-35 small eggs
Weight: turkey-cock -7,0-9,0 kg (14-18 pounds), turkey-3,0-4,5 kg (6-9 pounds)

Thank You, these are the only two chicken breeds from Bulgaria, but they are very rare (150-200 breeding birds).
