Advance Notice: Forums address to change shortly!

Post by stephen » 13 Jun 2014, 05:27

For 9 years we've been thepoultrykeeper.co.uk and had no plans to change this, despite neither myself or Nigel still living in the UK.

Nominet, the body who govern the .uk namespace, have introduced new rules which make it impossible for us to continue to use thepoultrykeeper.co.uk without giving up a huge amount of privacy.

As a result, the forums will be moving to a new domain most likely over this weekend.

You will be automatically redirected to the new address once the changeover has occured. You won't need to do anything.

It's going to kill your SEO though isn't it?
Can you not have someone in the UK as the Registered 'owner' in name only?

Not unless they want the same privacy issues - the requirements now are that even if you have a single paid link or advert of any sort that could result in financial gain you are a business and must have your full name, address, telephone number and email address publicly published.

Depends on how the redirects are done. Ones I've done in the past with the correct redirect code have worked fine.

The changeover has now occurred - we're now at http://www.thepoultrykeeper.club for the forums.

The galleries will move shortly.

No problem - the last thing we wanted was everyone being confused when the address didn't look right.

The good news is that with the redirects done properly, it hasn't affected our Google results, and they now list .club as the "proper" website.

The second change we've done will also boost us further in the future - Google now gives preference to pages that are https rather than http in results...
