Re: Persistent Feather Loss/Pecking?

Re: Columbine or cream legbar

I think you have been unlucky with your cream legbars. My daughter keeps them and has no trouble and although she would agree that they are not the friendliest of chickens hers are reliable layers of coloured eggs for 10 months of the year.

I'm with you on tomatoes - I only grew three beefsteak tomato plants but they are so loaded with child's head sized tomatoes that none of them can stand upright even with support. Luckily we do love tomatoes and have just had visitors to help with eating them all. Only about a ...

Re: Hen unable to walk

Also, does she have a swollen "tummy" - the bit further back from the bony bit? If so this is probably ascites, an accumulation of fluid which usually indicates problems in the egg laying department. Google it if that's the problem. It's quite common in rescue hens.

Re: Knowing your stuff?

Hi Gameboy and welcome If you want the best you do have to buy from the best. Most breeders will be helpful to beginners in showing and give you advice willingly. If you find a breeder with really good birds, ask him/her if they ever sell eggs and hatch some yourself. That way you are may well get s...

Re: Chicken with swollen eye

I'd be inclined to try a different vet - maybe research a poultry vet in your area or try this: http://www.justanswer.co.uk/sip/veterinary?r=ppc|ga|18|Pets%20-%20Vets%20-%20Search%20-%20CobJHG|Pets%20-%20VetsOnline%20-%20ModBroad&JPKW=vet%20on%20line&JPDC=S&JPST=&JPAD=68533871434&JPMT=p&JPNW=g&JPRC=...

If it's not affected by antibiotics it may well be a virus. Not a lot you can do and the outlook is not good I'm afraid. Just keep him warm and stress free if possible.
