Re: Hen unable to walk

Hi there! :)

Could be almost anything! Without any more symptoms, are you sure she's not just broody?

Check her out for the usual lice & mites, plus any crop problems. Are nose & eyes clear? Breathing OK? Poop normal?

I hope she's a little better today as you posted a few days ago now.

Re: Robins alert noise

This is a well known warning noise. Lots of birds have similar warning calls.

Re: New chicken owner. need advice!

Welcome to the forum Lynnperry4040. :) The noises they're making are quite normal. They are not silent but cluck & 'purr' & make various other noises too! Depending on (usually) the breed, a 4' fence could be enough to keep them in your garden but you may get an adventurous 1 that wants to see if th...

PK's Birthday soon!

In a few weeks time, The Poultry Keeper will be 12 years old! It started as just a temporary thing on 13th April 2005. It quickly grew in size & became a permanent much-loved place for chicken folk to hang out. Sadly in recent years it has declined in popularity & at the moment is barely fu...

Re: Soft shell eggs after molt?

It's usually just a temporary problem with some hens as they get over a moult or come back into lay. She may need a protein top up. A lot of people use wet cat food for this but you can also use tinned fish. Most other sources of protein could be used too. She will only need a little a day to help h...

Re: Bird Flu outbreak confirmed December 2016

Thankfully no extension to the lock-down, so it's still February 28th at the moment.

I haven't seen it yet so will catch up on BBC Iplayer but there was a piece about it on Countryfile last night. Probably worth watching. ;)
