Re: PEN CONSTRUCTION ADVICE

thank you for your reply. I suppose I should have said that my pen is approx 7 feet tall and we have loads of rabbits as well as foxes, though I know they are everywhere anyway.

I do think your suggestion regarding 4" posts on the corners is good.

Many Thanks

PEN CONSTRUCTION ADVICE

I have to do a major repair of my existing pen that measures 40ftx20ft and unfortunately sometime back when I had a glut of 2"square timber I made it out of that. Unfortunately it has to be revamped and this time I am going to use tantalised timber but I have a dillemma over what size to use. Ideall...

Our first ever fox attack

Oh my God what an experience that was.We are still grieving after it happening last Wednesday. To make it worse I had to make a snap decision to dispatch one of the lovely Buff Orpingtons we have had for a long time as he hadnt quite killed her. Doing that was horrific. It had five out of fourteen a...

When can I let my chicks outside?

We have chicks which are just over 3 weeks old, and they are growing rapidly and are a great size. With this lovely weather (which I am sure wont last long!) it made me wonder when chicks could be put out in a small mobile run that we have to have some fresh air? Obviously we would only do this if t...

ARE GEESE A DETERRANT TO FOXES?

Due to the threat of foxes, I only let my chickens out when we are days off and the weekends so that the noise of us out an about deterrs Foxy. I would like to let them out a bit more often and was told that a group of geese would be a good deterrant to foxes. Is this true or not?

ADVICE ON USE OF A BRINSEA INCUBATOR

I have been given the loan of a Brinsea Octagon 20 automoatic incubator and would appreciate a spot of advice on the positioning of the eggs? When I place the eggs in the incubator, do I lay them so that they are able to rattle/wobble slightly, or do I position them so that the seperating wires hold...

Re: What should I do for my hen with dropped wing?

Yes she is walking fine and her eyes seem great with no difference there. When it wa stime to get them all back in yesterday, she was last to come in and then went straight in the hutch and sat on the shavings, baring in mind it was only 1600hrs. It was as though the walk had taken it out of her wit...

Re: Injured chick from birth

I know they say "dont count your chickens" but after taping the legs in assuming she has a splayed leg, there has been a slight improvement. She has been standing indepenantly quite often today, and has just been eating at the chick-crumbs. We syringe feed her with water which she is taking, just in...

Re: Injured chick from birth

Many thanks Nicoola Goldsmith for the attachments you supplied. Have just looked at them now and they refer to "splay legs." What I woudl say is that the problematic leg on my chick is similar, but the best way I coud describe it is that it is keeping the effected leg retracted most of the time. Nev...
