possibly the weather. We had low 30's last week and 6-12° this week.
They're only crosses for the table, but still a shame

Advice needed please
hallo all, Three weeks ago today I set 20 eggs in my incubator, and the last time I candeled them I had 15 good 'uns. Well they hatched last night and this morning and I have 10 chicks. Here is my problem though, a couple of the chicks made good progress trying to hatch out but are now dead in their...

Re: Help - Pipping Duck Eggs
I've never incubated duck eggs, I let my ducks hatch their own. It does seam to take AGES for them to hatch once they've pipped.
Leave them alone, I know it's difficult not to keep having little peeks inside the incubator.

Re: Devastated
Sorry for your loss and sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the last poster is right. Last summer we had fox trouble and it managed to take 14 of our chickens whilst we were around the other side of the house. I'd never seen anything like that fox, he came back every two days dispite me hitting ...

sounds like a faulty switch. I've got the covatutto 24. if it's keeping temp. then go ahead and try it. if it's brand new maybe you could return it

Re: Worst year for foxes (for me)
Sorry to hear that nannyP.
I had a lucky escape last night. I forgot to close the pop-hole door on the barn. The foxes by me are very active at the moment...durring the day too.

Re: Hi and herbs..??
you could plant the herbs in the ground and then cover with a plastic fruit crate. The plants will be protected, the birds can get to anything growing through the gaps, and it gives them something to jump on to.

I remeber reading something like that too....not over here though.
Be careful not to feed anything too salty to the chickens, and avacado may or may not be poisonous to them, best not to give it to them really.
Citrus fruit can effect laying too.

Here are a couple of pics of my silkies and their run. I covered the run with a net made out of bailing twine...it didn't cost me anything but it took a long time. they're 16 weeks old http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v653/cugine_1/P4230226.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v653/cugine_1/P42302...

That's nasty. Don't be too hard on hubby though, I'm sure he feels really bad about it.
