Just an update on my experience posted earlier in the year . stuck to once a month with diatom earth and not seen a mite yet, but will be ever vigilant.

Drinking water

Just wondering what folks think of using water from rain barrels, I use tap water in a proper chicken drinker and rain barrel water in a small bucket and you can guess which the chickens prefer.

After my first experience with red mite last year i jetwashed and cleaned out with poultry shield and waited a week before painting all the interior cracks/joints with PVA glue, followed by using a paint brush to put a coat of diatom earth all over the coop interior. This has worked for nearly a yea...

No left it in place whole time never found what it was for, possible it is for higher model with egg turning.

Ok that's what I was going to do but did not know when with the different ages. I have three large fowl including the splash orp with the dodgy leg from you, so will be mixing the layers in soon as the growers is running out now thanks for the help.

To keep peace with neighbours we did a deal with a local breeder and have now got 3 hens in place of the 2 males. Now 17, 19 and 21 weeks when would you people move them from growers to layers please?

Thanks we thought the white one was male, but all three born together seem to have different size combs small medium and large. I hope you're wrong lol.

And two weeks later developing nicely, not sure what we have yet but we think the white ones male as it's not feathering as much as the other two but we,'re no experts.

Well the buff sussex were not fertile and i was left with just 4 pekins after candling, two have hatched today and two to hopefully follow. One has pipped but nothing happened today so fingers crossed for the night .
