Re: Has anyone ever hand-raised a lamb?

We hand reared a goat this year, for the first time. Fantastic experience, but a lot of work, and did tie us here for a bit. Dillon, a golden guernsey came here at about 4 weeks old and settled in as though he had been born here. Funniest experience was when he jumped the wall. I was in the house an...

Re: Nipple Drinkers...?

We used nipple drinkers for our chicks this year - first time, but OH has been wanting to use them for ages! They worked really well.

Re: chicken noise ?

The noisiest hen I had was a leghorn, other than that, they don't really make a noise at all, in my experience anyway.

Re: Feisty Cockerel

that's it - he's gone to the big chicken house in the sky! Seems a waste but it was getting silly!

Thanks for the advice. Always good to bounce things off people.

Re: Feisty Cockerel

Thanks. Just as I suspected. He has never gone for me but I am getting nervous of him. Off to do the deed!

Thanks for confirming for me.

Re: Interesting experiment

Well worth the experiment. You could actually post some to yourself next time to see how well they do in the postal system.

Feisty Cockerel

My speckled sussex has got increasingly aggressive. My son is scared to be out when he is, and he is frequently attacking my OH. I spoke to a national grid guy yesterday who said that he had attacked them last week when they came to look at the pole. Now, I am more than happy to send him to the grea...

Re: Why are my chickens so noisy??

Sounds a nightmare. No chance of getting another house for them to live in and shut them in until you are ready to let them out?

Re: When to move fruit

I have moved a few things at the "wrong" time because it was either kill or cure. The majority of the things have thrived in their new position.

Having said that, it's not tooo long to wait until the "correct" time to move them. Depends how much you value them really.

Re: Ooops....

Yes, I've done that too! I really shouldn't be let out on my own! Luckily, I noticed when there were a few hours of daylight left, and they do have a window so at least it wasn't dark. What made it worse was I had actually chucked them some mixed corn in the barn, just completely forgotten to walk t...

Re: Ooops....

lol, poor girls! I accidentally left one out of the barn the other night. Luckily, no noise from her. She was just sat patiently, waiting for the others to come out lol.
