Help! Need day old goslings/ ducklings

Hi all, I have a lone gosling who hatched yesterday, I only had 2 eggs in the incubator but we have a broody goose who's eggs should have hatched midweek and I thought if I only get one I can sneak him in with the broody as we have always found our geese more than happy to take any gosling offered, ...

Re: Chick can't walk!

Is it trying to stand up and not being able too? If so do it's legs seem to just stick out uselessly from its side? it may have splay legs. Make sure they are on a gripy surface something like an old towel rather than newspaper as that makes matters worse. You can make hobbles to help hold the legs ...

Re: Ducky Dielema

She is going to contact the council and see what they say. They def don't belong to anyone in the village, but they could have come a fair way as there are villages either side of hers.

Ducky Dielema

So folks what rules are there about pesky free roaming ducks? For the last year my mum has been having problems with visiting ducks. Her garden backs onto a stream, which runs through several villages and then onto a river. Thiis is un fenced (due to planning and environment agency!) and must remain...

Re: Large pen advice

If you want to keep it moveable why not think go attaching a line of electric fence 3 to 4 inches above the ground outside the heras panels? This should shock anything that gets close enough to dig, but obviously you then have the cost of a fence energiser, battery charger etc. you could either use ...

Re: Christmas is coming

Lol! Trying hard not to think of Christmas, but it is difficult not to look at the goslings and see them as fully grown and thinking of the people who turned up last year on Christmas Eve to collect theirs.

Turkey's would be worse I think.

Re: Prolapsing Geese- Help!

Thanks kated. Unfortunately she died overnight, so must have been worse than we thought and had peritonitis. We are back just to our original two geese so we shall just have to wait and see what happens next year. We had a ewe prolapse this year, first time in about 3 years, she ended up going to th...

Hi All, long time no post!,I need some goose help We kept on 2 of last years Brecon Buffs and they have been laying quite well. Re: Advice needed due to fox. :-(

Hi Lindsay, it's a mystery. The fence was on, but on a battery not mains, it was late afternoon, he must have pushed under it or possibily jumped it although nothing to climb on close by. He didn't get out again, he killed 11 birds, about half in the pen and half in the house, they had probably just...

Re: Advice needed due to fox. :-(

I had used electric fence successfully for about 4 years, but just before Christmas I had a fox get through it and kill loads. As laffinfowl says they will take just one bird, particularly if it's day time or the birds are free range as yours were. When they are confined you are more likely to get t...

Re: Electric Hen Vs Heat Lamp

I changed to electric hens 2 years ago, and no looking back! Chicks seem happy, and warm and more natural for them to be snuggled in the dark

Re: who's hatching what ?

After the fox attack just before Christmas I lost my best barred Plymouth rocks, but there is one young light barred cock that survived, I also have some older hens that were due for culling, but I am going to keep him with them and hope I can get some barred Plymouth rock chicks and get the breedin...

Re: New year new breeds

Hi Its a hard decision to make, but I personally think you are doing the right thing. If you got chickens for eggs, then you need chickens that are laying eggs! I had to do 6 from my laying flock a while back and I have ear marked another 8 that need to go as I have some young pullets that need to c...

All dead....

We have been lucky for 5 years, but just got home to find all my cockerels dead but 1. Am in shock. Just went to shut them in and thought that's odd, the coop door is closed, then spotted the first body, then the second. I had 3 pens with growers for the table and my breeding stock, my blue partridg...
