Re: Silkies

Hi, I live in Bloxham, 10 miles from Chippy and I have a black hen and 3 cockerels that need a home if you are interested. I breed a few now and again.

Re: Brinsea Mini Lock Down

Thank you, yes I'm filling it up to the max every day. It drops to below the divider of the two pots then the humidity is at 50%. When I fill it to the max the humidity is 60%. Is this still a bit low? Would you put some wet tissue in there to raise it a bit?

Brinsea Mini Lock Down

Hi, does anyone use a Brinsea mini auto advance bator. This is my first time incubating eggs and ive read that you must not open the bator during lock down. The problem is my Brinsea needs topping up with water every day to reach 60% humidity as is goes down really quickly. I thought you needed more...

Egg turning during incubation

Hi, I have a Brinsea advance incubator and this will be my first time at incubating eggs. The default for egg turning is every 45 mins. You can set it up to 90 mins. Is 45 mins too often? I've read loads of posts and all seem to refer to manual turning at least 3 times a day. This will turn the eggs...

Re: Bloated hen, very poorly

Oh no, is it common in older chickens as I thought it affected intensive egg layers that were younger. I don't know much about this.

Bloated hen, very poorly

Hi, please help! I have a hybrid hen (rhode Island x light sussex) and she is 5 1/2 years old. a week ago she had a bright scarlet comb and I mean bright. She was sitting with her tail in the air and her head down and was a little bloated in her tummy. It felt like fluid or air but was not hard. She...

Re: Silkies

Ok thank you. I thought as much and she is such a good mum. I'll get my husband to make a bigger run with a top on it so the buzzards and crows don't get them as the broody coop is too small for all of them. Thanks again.

Hi all, what age can I take mum away from chicks and they won't get cold at night. They still sleep under her and they are 3 weeks old this weekend. Thanks
