Re: Pecking order advise pleeeease!

Introduction of new birds and the re establishment of a pecking order can be a traumatic thing to watch. Unless there is actual blood I think it is probably more disturbing for us to watch than the birds involved. Introduction in an evening is a good idea and often works as does the separation of th...

Re: New Arrival

Sadly Troy developed congestive heart failure last year, he went downhill very quickly. The breeders were very accommodating over his name. We wanted to call him Byron, so they mixed it into his pedigree name. Sherepoint the breeders kennel name and Pepper from the sire's name. He's certainly spicin...

New Arrival

After losing Troy (the Weimaraner in my avatar) last year we've been dogless for 9 months.

Look who we picked up yesterday.

This is Sherepoint Pepper's Lord Byron

Calling All Knitter...

If you have any Australian connections you might want to point this out to them. There is a link in the article to the pattern.

Re: Castration dilemma

If he's a rare breed and there is a steady demand for them, I would leave him whole. If you have doubts about finding him a new home sad though it is do the deed and think of all the lovely things you can do with delicious kid meat.

Beautiful kids by the way. I really miss my goats.

Re: College Project Market Research for Goose Keepers

1. Yes I've heard if the Shetland Goose. A small but very hardy breed, good grazers. Similar in appearance to the larger Scania Goose (Skånegås) and the Öland Goose (Ölandgås) perhaps hinting at a common origin. 2. No I've never kept them, though when in Sweden we did keep and breed the Skånegås. 3....

Re: when will moulting hens lay again ?

The old rule of thumb used to be that hens stopped laying bonfire night and started on valentines day, and while that is very general and modern hybrids have compressed the timing it still has some validity It's all to do with day length and now you're getting longer days I would expect that breeds ...

Re: Lost two birds last night

The Swedes also have a similar attitude. Back in Sweden one of our neighbours had three rough collies that were left to roam free. They chased the local sheep but curiously avoided our goats. When we lost three geese I was never sure if I should blame the fox or them. Sadly you can't change cultural...

It's bad news I'm afraid. I don't think it's going to be possible to reactivate your old account. I will ask Steph who does our admin but as far as I know we have tended to close accounts that have been inactive for 2 years.

Re: Dawn chorus with a difference.

We have this as our dawn chorus from Australian Magpies.

The song is such a mismatch with the bird but I love to hear it.
