Re: Hens first egg?

She's 'just practising' - the egg will come in due course. (And quite possible not in the nest box! )

If she's red on top, and generally behaving like she normally does, don't worry.

They're back..............

.....................and they're going - PDQ.

I came in after locking up with that distinctive itchy, crawling feeling.....................sure enough, a little mite creeping around.

Time for another spraying of Ficam W in the coops!

Re: Layers sample bags?

It sounds like they're still having 'Oops! Where did that come from?' moments!

They'll soon start to prefer a dark, cosy nest box!

Re: Layers sample bags?

Like Henwife says, your girls are probably a bit young to be laying yet. And (forgive me if you know this!) layers pellets don't make hens lay.

Re: Which printer?

I'm an Epson fan - I've had several of their printers over the years. I have a WP-4535 at the moment which gets a lot of use. :)

Re: New arrivals

Welcome to the Forum! Yes, the move might put the girls off lay for a while. There again, it might not! ;)  Sheep fencing won't keep your flock in, or predators out, sorry to say. So make sure they're all securely locked in their coop at night or the fox will get them. :( Any photos of t...

Re: Ducks!

DrFish, yup, Hyacinth Bucket Ducks. They come out their coop in a morning, out the run, straight into the pond. Spend half an hour doing their morning ablutions (and I see what you mean about the two larger ones getting - ahem - 'friendly'! ;) ) The duck weed is disappearing fast. Then t...

Re: Random 'fell off perch' incident

Poor thing. :(

I've had it happen at a similar age - I think it's possibly hormone related as they get ready to start laying.

Re: Ducks!

I think they underwent a transformation between your house and mine - They've got a deep bucket in their run and take it turns most of the day! Funny critturs!

I've bought a fish landing net for the next time I let them out, just in case.................... ;)

Re: Hens turned noisy!

Try some other distractions - hang a cabbage in a basket, or sprinkle some sesame seeds in their straw to scratch for. Have they got stuff in their run to jump up, go under, etc? Another thought - is there a strange cat visiting the garden? My hens ignore the regulars, but deafen us if a strange one...
