Re: Defended by a cockerel

I had a LS boy who would 'break up' scraps between the two bantam cockerals and would sort them out when they were over enthusiastic around the girls, it was funny to watch, he was definitely boss but he was a big softie really  The worst for aggression during breeding season was the modern ga...

New addition

I had a warren (ex barn lady) go broody on me so not having any fertile eggs ready some friends obliged with runner duck eggs and so today warren became the proud mum to two pretty yellow runner ducks. The look on warrens face when she saw them was a picture.......i'm sure she was thinking I don't r...

Re: Intense scratching

I've always used frontline and touch wood it's been ok for us even now we're surrounded by roaming sheep.

But a friend across the field has a dog who has been tested and found to be allergic to house mites which cause him problems even though he's frontlined regulary

Re: Advice needed about an insecure cat

We have a rescue cat who's an absolute star, very loving but also loves being independent and hunting. We've never put him in a cattery, he stays at home when we are away coming and going as he wants via cat flap and friends come over to feed him. He's never become feral, he gets clingy for a few da...

Re: Fir & Feather Sale

Glad you enjoyed the experience.............I was petrified when I went. Fortunately I went with a friends dad who is well into poultry and helped me find some good stock.

My problem is because i'm only short it was difficult to be seen  Fortunately friends' dad is well over 6' =D>

Re: Absolutely gutted

Oh what an awful decision for you. Can you not keep him in a fenced off area with his girls until the chicks are older? I had a beautiful LS boy who 99% of the time was a gentle giant but the minute there were chicks around he went into protective mode so I just kept him in the run with a few ladies...

Re: Advice on brain damaged bitch

She is so lucky to have you, but i guess you feel blessed to have her too. I know our little lad is getting on now he's nearly 14 and sometimes I have to bite my tongue and not get mad when he doesn't come to call remembering he's going deaf and has cataracts, he can't help it and we love him so muc...

New girls

Went to Smallholder show at Builth Wells last weekend and amongst the newbies I got some Barbu D'uccles. After quarantine they went into the coop with the others and there they stayed for two days..........I had to turf them out into the run where they stayed hiding under the ramp. Looking at them i...

Re: call ducks fighting

Mates' calls will literally chase you up the paddock to get infront of you or to peck your legs :? They have never penned them during moult and the rest of the year (after mating) they are nice and sociable, still chase you to peck your leg but other than that they are great. This morning they met m...

Re: call ducks fighting

A friend has two male call ducks who ignore the girls that were bought for them and are presently 'courting' each other. They seem to fight by winding their necks together and sparring but it seems to be courtship, they don't hurt each other.............the worse thing they get is an accidental boot...

Re: need help with gold finch

Hi I don't know if the little finch is still ok .........but i've hand fed my aviary birds who were poorly on baby food mixed with some baby apple lightly warmed or some chopped egg works . The apple apparently helps prevent sour crop. Just put a little on a spoon and hopefully it'll eat. If you can...
