Where to get white minorca hatching eggs?

Does anyone have any idea where I can get white minorca hatching eggs from? Most people only seem to have the black.

I'd prefer a utility strain but anything will do seeing how hard they are to come by. :meoww

white sussex x silkie have I been duped?

At market last week a bought a pair - being a white sussex cock and a gold silkie hen, on the basis that they would produce the beautiful gold tops seen in the next cage. Now I have looked on the internet it seems that Gold tops are produced through crossing a white silkie cock with a white sussex h...

Which plants are poisonous to chickens?

There are a number of plants that are poisonous however chickens do tend to have an inbuilt sense to avoid them or the levels of toxicity are such that the chicken would need to ingest significant amounts in order for it to prove fatal. For example, rhubarb leaves contain oxalic acids which are toxi...

Chicken coop; wood vs tin

I am looking at setting up a new chicken area, and putting the kid's rabbits (flemish giants) in the old coop. I am debating between building a wooden plywood type and the Qiq Fix fowl house that is sold at Bunnings Warehouse. It is similar to a tin garden shed, however I live in chch so was wonderi...

Broody chicken, shall i coop her elsewhere, take her eggs?

Hi all, Well I thought we had lost a chicken, one day about 2 weeks ago one of our gold wyandottes went missing, she didn't come back at night and I was a bit puzzled. Then about 4 days later she turned up in the morning very talkative and looking very hungry but then disappeared again to turn up to...

Pigs and Chickens in the same Shelter?

I have kept pigs and chickens in the same paddock with success, but each one had its own shelter - the chickens have a portable chicken tractor and the pigs slept in a calf hutch (when they wanted to). But, when it came time to move them, I had to move each shelter separately. Being the lazy SOB tha...

my worst chicken year.

It started with 10 hatched silver laced polish. They all got signs of paralysis and no depth perception one by one until they were all gone. I really knew I had Marek's then. 8 months later someone sent me her very first Crele Polish eggs, 8 of them. 1 I injured with the Marek's vaccine I most likel...

Cockerel Question

We hatched out a couple of Chickens in a brooder and now we think that one of them is a Cockerel. We already have a Cockerel. And now that the Brooder one is growing up we have noticed that both Cockerels are fighting and we have to keep them apart. How do we stop them from fighting and or what do w...

Diy chicken shelter ideas?

I've got 4 chickens who I let out to free range through the day but overnight I keep them in a secure pen with a small coop. Trouble is when it's raining on an evening but before bedtime they just stand in the pen getting soaked. I'm not sure if this is a bad thing? And I wondered if I could make an...

Removing broody from chicks - How do I do it and when?

I'm back again, this time for your font of knowledge on when to send my broody back to the other two adults. My four chicks will be six weeks old on Tuesday and although pretty independent during the day, (especially the boys), still come running at mums call and tuck up under her every night and al...

I have a 3 month old Bantam who thinks it's the most wonderful thing when she eats my saliva from my mouth... as weird as that sounds. I want to know if anyone else has had this? She will just sit on my chest and wait til I go to speak or breathe and she'll stick her head in my mouth and gobble up s...

My worst moulter!

It's that time again and my buff Orpington girl finished trying to hatch eggs after 4 weeks and promptly dropped most of her feathers! She really looks a mess but the new feathers are coming through fast. Do any of yours look this bad?? She's lost neck feathers, tail feathers and body feathers - mor...

Do you wash your eggs prior to storing?

Hi all - I have heard that washing eggs before storing them is not a good idea because you risk removing the natural protective coat. However, given that eggs can often have chicken poop somewhere on them - how else do you get rid of this if not to wash it?

What do you do? \:D/ \:D/ \:D/

Pigs and streams

Hi all We would like to move our pigs but one field has access to a burn (stream) running through it. It runs from our field and then under the road. If it's been raining it can be up to the top of our wellies in the deepest bit, but most areas are shallower. Would we need to fence the burn off or w...
