Re: Do I really need more

I think you are the only person who can truly answer why you want more. As with any hobby it gets comsuming and its natural to want to progress and develop.
But as you have already pointed out to us you don't know what to do with the excess eggs now.

Re: Improving Columbian markings in L/F Brahma's

Remember he says!!!!  I would never have known that in the first place if you hadn't told me. ;) PP might have decided your services to poultry are not needed but over here they are very much required and appreciated. I haven't as yet got either light hen or cock but if it would ...

Re: My Bullied light sussex :(

The answer is not fitting external devices to stop the behaviour. The answer is stopping the cause of the behaviour in the first place, ie overcrowding and boredom.

Re: My Bullied light sussex :(

If the victim is still showing red, ie any open wounds, spray it purple with a horse wound spray as any red showing will make them want to peck more. I'd agree with henwife I think it may be a good idea to rehome the victim, whilst she's the bottom of the pecking order now and will be when she enter...

Re: Improving Columbian markings in L/F Brahma's

Still pondering on this one, but what if I was to put a light Brahma to the Buff? It would at least be reducing some work by keeping the cross in the family and from what I've seen of some of the Buff Sussex cocks they have the same problem as I'm trying to cure in Brahma's.

Re: New set up

Would like to know more about this floor paint please as we had not thought of this as an option. Does it make a waterproof sealant sort of finish that can be scrubbed? Does it have a trade name etc. Its garage floor paint, have a look on the net or ebay, there's plenty of options. If you want a we...

Re: New set up

I would suggest avoiding adding the vinyl flooring, its another layer for bugs to hide under. Better to use floor paint that seals the floor and generally makes it dry quicker. Creocote is no good for preventing red mite, it has to be either traditional creosote, limewash or Ficam W and its far bett...

Re: Hen treats?

Wheat or mixed corn is great as a scatter/scratch feed, particularly in very cold weather. It gives the hens warmth so ideal last thing before going to roost. They grind it up in their crops over night and it gradually releases energy which is then turned into warmth.

Re: New set up

Tanalised Timber can be dangerous to poultry, just go for plain basic timber, treat with Ficam W or traditional creosote because as soon as any decent weather returns so will the red mite [and if you don't know about them, find out now].

Re: Identify mystery breed

I was going to say clean legs, but looking at the pics again, it does appear thats she's got some feathering on her legs I'll have a better look tomorrow. My pullet is about the size of a black bird and extremely tame.
