CHICKEN OFF LEGS ADVICE NEEDED ASAP

Hedwig (one of our new girls we've had a week) has gone off her legs, she laid this morning and has been happy and alert. I went up about half 4 to give them a bit of corn and she was lying in the run. I picked her up and she didn't try to get away from me and she seemed quite floppy. I tried to get ...

Re: Broody-AGAIN! So.....

Thank you CarzyPianoLady, how long do I leave them under her though?

Hen-Gen,while the weather was hot I was damping her breast and underside to try and cool her down, thus putting her off the idea of settling on the eggs.

Re: Broody-AGAIN! So.....

Thank you :) I'm off to buy and Ark today so I can get her in and settled. Do I leave it outside of the girls fixed run or inside? I have dummy eggs for her to sit on but how long do I leave her sitting? She's sits on the other hens eggs now until I turf her off. The place that sells the CLB hatches...

Broody-AGAIN! So.....

Arrgghh! Oreo (Milliefluer Pekin) has gone Broody AGAIN! I have been damping her down-not working. So I have decided to give in and get her some babies. Few questions though... fertile eggs vs day olds? Pro's and Con's please-I've been leaning towards CLB day olds as no Cockerels to worry about . I ...

Re: Broody and day old chicks-advice please!

If I just took the dummy eggs away and put her in a separate coop away from the other hens with food and water would this stop her? She couldn't pinch any eggs then? or would she still just make a nest and sit? How many days would I need to keep her in the cage for and would the other girls accept h...

Broody and day old chicks-advice please!

Our Pekin,Oreo has been broody since May 18th. I ried shutting her out of the coop as advised to no avail,so on advice I have got her dummy eggs which she has sat on since Monday but is STILL pinching the other girls eggs to sit on. She will only eat and drink if forceably removed from the nest box ...

Re: 1 broody and now the rest aren't laying?

Bumping this-she's still no better,if shut out the coop she hunkers down in the corner and I'm having to let the girls in twice daily so they can lay. Do I give in and put some eggs under her? If I cant stop her being broody what's the worst case scenario that will happen?

Re: 1 broody and now the rest aren't laying?

Nope, they aren't laying anywhere different . I opened up the box yesterday and three rushed in and laid at once and then oreo shooed them out and sat on them! I've shut the door again today,no eggs in the run. Just been up and cleaned the coop out and she's begging me to go in! How long will she be ...

1 broody and now the rest aren't laying?

Oreo our millifluer Bantam has been broody since Wednesday. I have been shooing her out of the nest box but she keeps going back in! The other 4 girls have stopped laying too but are showing no signs of broodiness? I've shut the coop off completely today in the hope she'll snap out of it but I cant ...

Re: Omlet Netting?

Foxes aren't a real problem here. We do have them but the nearest Den is some distance away from our house. There have been no signs so far, scat (fox poo is like channel No 5 to my lurcher so she would find it before I did),digging, scratching .The lad I re homed the girls from lived in the same stree...

Re: Omlet Netting?

It would just be for free ranging in the daytime while I'm out at work, they have a fox proof run and house for night time. At the moment I can only let them out in the garden while I'm watching them, this is a limited time each day and I'd just like them to have a bit more freedom.

Omlet Netting?

Is it any good?? We've weighed up prices and reckon (as my step-daughter gets a staff discount where she works) that the netting with be the cheaper-and easier fencing option to install. I'd just like to hear opinions before we purchase. The size we are looking at is 24m with a gate.
Thank you
